The challenge

When we started, Hojarasca Danza had all its shows, workshops and performances on Vimeo or YouTube. Those platforms don’t allow some videos to be viewed because of their age rating or their content. This caused problems for the company, and how its audience watched each video depended on an outside company.

The company needed its own video website, one where its audience could watch the videos without age or content restrictions, and which its team could manage as easily as its website.

What we built

A video website built with WordPress, the same technology the company’s website already uses. This makes it simpler to maintain over the long term, and the team manages it in much the same way as their website.

The videos are stored on the website itself, not on Vimeo or YouTube. This removes the age and content-type restrictions. The design is based on the company’s website, adapted to showcase video. It was delivered in five weeks.

For technical readers: how it is built

1 2 3 4
How the system is built inside.
  1. The company uploads a video from its WordPress site.
  2. The video is converted into several qualities.
  3. Each quality is left ready to play.
  4. The viewer watches it on the company’s website.

The platform combines WordPress with AWS managed services for video:

  • Lightsail hosts the platform’s WordPress site on an instance with a fixed size and price.
  • S3 stores the videos, and CloudFront delivers them from locations close to the viewer.
  • Elemental MediaConvert converts each video into the formats and quality levels needed for streaming.
  • EventBridge and Lambda automate video processing without dedicated servers.
  • DynamoDB stores video data.

The result is a standard WordPress site for the team and a video chain managed by AWS services.
