Migrate your WordPress site
Changing hosting raises questions, and that’s normal. There’s a site already running, with its domain, its visitors and its forms, and nobody wants it to stop working. Migration means moving your site from where it is today to its new server. Our team handles it from start to finish, and it’s included.
We’ve completed more than 30 WordPress site migrations, and none has been down for more than 15 minutes. That’s our track record, not a promise: every site is different, so the first step is to look at yours. Here we explain how we migrated Revista GODOT and a promotional gifts store.
What we check first
How your site is doing today
We measure your site’s speed and how it appears on Google. We look for errors, warnings and tasks that have got stuck. That way we know where we’re starting from and what should improve after the change.
What it needs
We check how much memory and disk space it uses today, and how many visitors it gets. With that, we tell you which plan suits it, so you don’t overpay or fall short.
How long it’s been without updates
We check the version of WordPress, the theme and every plugin. Before migrating, we tell you what’s out of date or has security vulnerabilities.
How we do it
- A test copy. We set up a copy of your site on its new server. We test it at a trial address while your current site keeps running.
- A review with you. You go through the new site, check the forms, the shop and the key pages, and tell us if anything isn’t right. It gets fixed before the switch, not after.
- Final copy and domain switch. We copy whatever has changed since the first copy: orders, new posts, comments. Then we point your domain to the new server. This is the only moment where there may be a brief outage, and we schedule it outside business hours.
- Follow-up. For the first few days we monitor errors, visitors and speed. After that, the standard PF Hosting routine takes over: nightly backups and weekly updates.
Frequently asked questions
What does migrating my site to PF Hosting involve?
We move your entire site to the new server: its pages, its data and its domain. It stays exactly as it was, with the same addresses. It runs from Europe, with the backups, updates and protection of PF Hosting.
Will my site be down during the switch?
Most of the work is done on a test copy, while your current site stays online. The only possible outage is during the domain switch, and we schedule it outside business hours. In our migrations, it has never exceeded 15 minutes.
What if the problem isn’t the server, but the theme or the plugins?
We’ll tell you during the initial analysis. If a theme or plugin is causing the slowness or the errors, we suggest alternatives. We can replace it, update it or handle that part differently. We don’t migrate a problem from one place so it can keep being a problem.
What happens afterwards?
Your site joins the standard PF Hosting routine: nightly backups, weekly updates, an attack filter and someone keeping an eye on it all working. When you need a plugin, a domain change or more memory, you ask us and we take care of it. What each plan includes is listed under what’s included.
If you prefer to do it yourself
If someone technical works in your company, the step-by-step guide is published. It’s the same one we follow.
What we use to do it
Your site moves to a dedicated server in Amazon’s (AWS) data centres in the European Union. The domain change is a DNS change. DNS records say where your site is, and we manage them in Route 53. In front of the site sit CloudFront, which distributes it around the world, and the attack filter. The cache is the ready-to-serve copy of each page. It lives on the server and on CloudFront.
